Camille’s Corner: Bengals & La Liga

Sports Trivia

Who is the only athlete ever to play in a Super Bowl and a World Series?

(Will show the answer on the next post)

Bengals’ George Iloka has been released

The Bengals have released their Strong Safety George Iloka,

George Iloka  tweeted:

“You can’t just say God’s Plan during the good. It is God’s Plan during the bad and the uncertain. So….. God’s Plan”.

Cincinnati’s decision comes as a surprise just two weeks into the preseason. 2012’s fifth-round draft pick Iloka has been a mainstay in Marvin Lewis’ secondary, starting 76 of a possible 82 games over the past five years.

Garafolo said the move is a financial decision, as Iloka is due more than $5 million in salary and bonuses this season. The Bengals had kicked the tires on Eric Reid as a potential replacement earlier this offseason, but the former 49ers starter remains out of work in a veteran safety market that has been historically slow to develop.

Reid went on to file a collusion grievance against the NFL following his visit with Cincinnati.

La Liga players are not feeling the deal to play in the United States

Previously, I reported an agreement for European soccer to come to the states. Since the news officially hit the press, La Liga players have become ‘outraged’ over this deal.

Spain Footballers players’ union said there is a consideration to strike over a plan to stage a league match in the United States.

US media company Relevent and La Liga agreed to a 15-year deal.  The AFE players’ union says its members were not consulted by La Liga.

AFE president David Aganzo met with La Liga players in Madrid on Wednesday to discuss the issues; such as this agreement that has a validity of 15 years without consulting the players.  Also there is concern about scheduling and their European fans.

Aganzo said: “The problem is the lack of common sense, a schedule where only the export of soccer benefits – nobody counts on the fans”.

The AFE said players “do not understand the unilateral decisions”, adding: “La Liga is distancing the fans of the players, something that harms the show and the essence of football.”

After Wednesday’s meeting the league said, “La Liga will meet with AFE again in a appropriate forum to discuss the plans to play a match outside of Spain.”
